Latest Reads...

This weekend I finished TWO books, and I loved them!Images from www.maggiestiefvater.com

The Wolves of Mercy Falls series by Maggie Stiefvater. The third installment in the series Forever, is released on July 12, 2011. I can't wait!

I do not recommend them for younger teens. They do contain some adult content. If I just described the plot one would think it silly, but something in the way Maggie writes just grabs you and hangs on. I'm so glad I got BOTH books at the same time. I couldn't put them down.

Books make Great Gifts!

Books are the IDEAL present for the children in your life! All ages benefit from, and LOVE books, even reluctant readers. Here are some spectacular books for the reader(s), reluctant or otherwise, on your list...
Shredderman: Secret Identity by Wendelin Van Draanen
This is the first in a series, and the boys LOVE it!

Clementine by Sara Pennypacker
I LOVE this girl! Maybe it's her curly red hair that gets me, I don't know, but she sure is cute!

Stink: Solar System Superhero by Megan McDonald
This is the newest of the "Stink" books! He's a pretty funny kid =)

Ivy + Bean: What's the Big Idea? by Annie Barrows
Two girls who were never supposed to be friends...this is the latest in this super cute series.

Thank you so much for your overwhelming response and support! Tutoring sessions are filling fast, so contact me if you are interested in helping your reader.

I specialize in helping students improve their reading. Do you have a struggling or reluctant reader? I want to share my excitement, enthusiasm and love of reading with those readers who haven’t caught on to reading yet. I say yet, because it’s not that they don’t like reading, it’s that they haven’t found WHAT they enjoy reading. Once a reader has found something they enjoy reading, they are unstoppable! I have experienced this with my own children. I am a huge reader, (and librarian) and I was surprised to find my own children did not enjoying reading as much as I did (and still do.) I discovered a secret...several actually, that I incorporate in to my tutoring.

Feel free to call or email me to set up a free, initial consultation with you and your reader. I want to meet them! I want to help them! I want to ease your struggles with your reader!
I am currently an Elementary Media Specialist with the Alpine School District. I have worked in the Library field for 14+ years and understand the importance of reading, and the frustrations that sometimes come with learning to read. I want to help!

Welcome!

Welcome to Turn the Page tutoring!
We offer private reading tutoring for those early readers, in either half hour or hour long sessions, once or twice a week. I currently work full-time as a Media Specialist (Librarian) so tutoring times will be scheduled after school, beginning at 4:00. I am available for evening appointments as well, if that works into your schedule better.

I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Brigham Young University, and 14+ years of library/reading experience. I love to read, and have enjoyed it from the time I was very small. I remember spending many a night absorbed in a book... then glancing out my window to see that the sky was becoming lighter. I had read all night! =) I love sharing that love of reading with children of all ages, and getting them excited about reading as well. I particularly enjoy helping reluctant/struggling readers find themselves reading wise. It's not that they don't like to read, it's just that they haven't found the right books for them. I want to help them find books they will love, and THEN they will enjoy reading.

I offer free initial consultations, that way you can meet me, I can meet you and your reader, we can get to know one another. Then you can decide if working with me will be a good fit for your reader.

In the coming days, I hope to have this site up and running smoothly! Until then, if you are interested in meeting with me, please email me at jwhaymond (at) comcast (dot) net, or just leave a comment. =) I look forward to hearing from you and your readers!
